Edna O Brien

Biography

Edna O'Brien was born in 1930. Her brilliant debut novel, The Country Girls, was banned in her native Ireland upon its publication in 1960. Since then she has gone on to produce some of the finest writing of the twentieth century. Since her debut novel The Country Girls Edna O'Brien has written over twenty works of fiction along with biographies of James Joyce and Lord Byron. She is the recipient of many awards including the Irish PEN Lifetime Achievement Award, the American National Arts Club Medal of Honor and the Ulysses Medal. Born and raised in the west of Ireland she has lived in London for many years.
