Geoff Dyer Wins National Book Critics Circle Award
Canongate's author wins prestigious American prize for Otherwise Known as the Human Condition.
Otherwise Known as the Human Condition is the American edition of Dyer's selected essays from the last twenty years. It comprises work from Anglo English Attitdues and Dyer's most recent UK essay collection, Working the Room. The book received best work of criticism at the awards on 8 March 2012. This is the only American prize for which a non-American author is eligible to win, and Canongate is delighted to announce the news.
Working the Room is available from Canongate. Alive with insight, wit and Dyer's characteristic irreverence, it offers a guide around the cultural maze, mapping a route through the worlds of literature, art, photography and music. Also venturing into more personal territory with extensive autobiographical pieces, the book combines Dyer's breadth of vision and genorosity of spirit to form a manual for ways of being in - and seeing - the world today.
